What Do You Believe Part II

Published by Paul on

I am a big Seattle Seahawks fan, and of course, of QB Russell Wilson.  Russell has orchestrated several successful 4th Quarter drives that ended in a victory for the Hawks.  Win or lose they are fun to watch.  He also brings a positive outlook on life whether winning or losing, that comes from his strong walk of faith.

This year I entered what I consider to be the 4th Quarter of life (age 76).  I am not sure if it’s the beginning of the quarter or if I am supposed to be calling plays in the 2 minute drill. Only God knows the day and the hour when my earthly game ends. What I do know: I am at the point of life when I had better know what I believe, because this is a real game, not practice or “fantasy football.”

One of my mentors in my early faith walk, Hegge Iverson, founder of the counseling organization, Burden Bearers, often referred to God as the Quarterback of the Universe.  He taught me that God has a playbook (Bible) and has drawn up plays to direct our path to the goal line; to defend against strong opposition; and to respect, and even love, players on both teams.

During this celebration season of the birth of Jesus, I hope I can encourage you to continue a vibrant study of God’s Playbook and in so doing impact the lives of many people around you.  My life has been changed through the wisdom of the Playbook, prayer answered, strong personal relationships and miracles.  I know that I am made in the Image of God, that I am loved and have a purpose to fulfill until the earthly game ends.  I understand that the post-game celebration is awesome!

Because of encouragement from men like Hegge and many others, I built a foundation of faith and values that believes God’s promises to be true, and that there is certainty in trusting wisdom in the Bible related to career, relationships, finances and serving others.  I have also experienced God’s love and forgiveness when I didn’t run correctly some plays from the Playbook.

My last 2 blogs were a heads up that postmodern thought and blindly following the ideas of others can neutralize the power and direction found in a personal relationship with the QB of the Universe. Developing and owning one’s belief system based on the truth, certainty and reality of a personal relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, brings a sense of purpose, joy, peace and love.

So I end with questions: Are you taking time to read and understand God’s Playbook?  How are you doing about executing some of the plays:  loving a neighbor, extending or receiving forgiveness; rebuilding a broken relationship; serving the widow and the poor; spending some alone time in prayer with the Quarterback?

I am sure Russell Wilson’s answer to the above questions will be “yes.”  Follow his tweets @DangeRussWilson.  Merry Christmas!!
